pbTotal population increased by 42,443 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The total population of Antique was 515,265 persons as of August 1, 2007, based on the 2007 Census of Population. This figure was higher by 42,443 persons over the population count of 472,822 persons in 2000. The population count of the province for the period 2000 to 2007 translated to an average annual population growth rate of 1.19 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 106,720, which was 13,422 households more than the number reported in 2000. The average household size in 2007 was 4.8 persons, lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSan Jose was the most populated municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 18 municipalities in Antique, the municipality of San Jose, the provincial capital, was the most populated with 10.6 percent share to the total provincial population. This was followed by the municipalities of Sibalom (10.5 percent) and Hamtic (8.2 percent). The municipality of Belison (2.4 percent) had the least share of population./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1087f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio rose to 106 males for every 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 514,632 household population in Antique, 51.5 percent were males and 48.5 percent were females. The sex ratio was recorded at 106 males for every 100 females. This was higher than the sex ratio of 102 males per 100 females recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age was 19 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Antique had a median age of 19 years, which means that half of the household population were below 19 years old. This median age was one year lower than the median age of 20 years recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of persons in age groups 0 to 4 years and 5 to 9 years were the highest with 13.3 percent share each, followed closely by those in age group 10 to 14 years (13.1 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1087f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age brackets 0 to 54 years, while females outnumbered males in age brackets 55 years and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore than half of household population were of voting ages/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (53.4 percent) of the household population of Antique were in the voting age group (18 years old and over). The distribution of voting-age population by sex showed that males (51.3 percent) outnumbered the females (48.7 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio increased to 85 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 54.0 percent, young dependents (0 to 14 years) comprised 39.7 percent, while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 6.3 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio in 2007 was 85, which means that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were about 85 dependents (73 young dependents and 12 old dependents). This ratio grew from 78 dependents (68 young and 10 old dependents) per 100 persons in the working-age population in 2000. The growth in the overall dependency ratio could be explained by the increase in both young and old dependents./p p align="JUSTIFY"bThere were more males than females among never-married persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007, 47.1 percent were never married while 43.3 percent were married. The rest of the population were either widowed (5.5 percent), had common law/live-in marital arrangement (3.3 percent), divorced/separated (0.5 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.3 percent). Among never-married persons, there were more males (56.6 percent) than females (43.4 percent). Females outnumbered males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHigher levels of education for females than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 43.5 percent had attended or finished elementary education while 28.9 percent had reached or completed high school. The proportion of academic degree holders was 7.4 percent, or twice the proportion reported in 2000 (3.7 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females had attained higher levels of education than males, as majority of those with academic degrees (55.9 percent) and post baccalaureate courses (68.5 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 69.1 percent had attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. School attendance among males (66.5 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years) was lower compared with that of females (71.9 percent of the total females aged 5 to 24 years) during the said school year./p p align="JUSTIFY"bRatio of households per 100 occupied housing units remained at 101/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of occupied housing units in 2007 reached 106,036, indicating an increase of 14.8 percent from the 92,394 occupied housing units reported in 2000. The average number of households for every 100 occupied housing units was 101; the same ratio reported in 2000. The number of persons per occupied housing unit in 2007 was 4.9, slightly lower than the ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMost houses had strong materials for roof but light materials for walls/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority of the housing units in Antique had outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa (55.8 percent). This was followed by those with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone (24.2 percent) and half concrete/brick/stone and half wood (15.7 percent). Use of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa as materials for the outer walls decreased by 3.5 percentage points from 59.3 percent in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"On the other hand, the proportion of occupied housing units with roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum increased from 49.3 percent in 2000 to 58.2 percent in 2007. Use of cogon/nipa/anahaw as materials for the roof was 35.2 percent, lower from the 2000 figure of 44.5 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
