p align="JUSTIFY"bPopulation increased to 151,238 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The population of Guimaras was 151,238 persons as of August 1, 2007, based on the 2007 Census of Population (POPCEN 2007). This figure was higher by 9,788 persons over the population count of 141,450 persons in 2000. The recent population count for the province translated to an average annual population growth rate of 0.93 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 32,114 for the period 2000 to 2007, which was 4,649 households more than the number of households in 2000. The average household size in 2007 was 4.7 persons, which was slightly lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bBuenavista was the most populated municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 5 municipalities in Guimaras, Buenavista was the most populous with a population of 43,817 persons or 29.0 percent of the total provincial population. This was followed by Nueva Valencia (23.2 percent), Jordan (21.5 percent), the provincial capital, and San Lorenzo (14.8 percent). The municipality of Sibunag (11.6 percent) had the least share./p p align="center" /p p align="JUSTIFY"bMales dominated the household population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 150,909 household population of Guimaras, 51.6 percent were males and 48.4 percent were females or a sex ratio of 107 males for every 100 females. This was slightly higher than the sex ratio of 105 males for every 100 females in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHalf of the population of Guimaras were below 23 years old/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Guimaras had a median age of 23 years, which means that half of the household population were below 23 years old. The median age for the province in 2007 was two years higher than the median age of 21 years recorded in 2000./p p align="center" /p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority of the voting-age population were males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority (60.6 percent) of the household population of Guimaras were in the voting age group (18 years old and over). The distribution of voting-age population by sex showed that males (51.5 percent) outnumbered the females (48.5 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio decreased to 63/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 61.3 percent, young dependents (0 to 14 years), 32.6 percent and old dependents (65 years and over), 6.1 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio was 63, which means that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were 63 dependents (53 young and 10 old dependents). In 2000, there were about 70 dependents (61 young and 9 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working-age population./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of married persons increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007, 47.2 percent were single while 45.5 percent were married. The marital status of the rest of the population was either widowed, divorced/separated, common law/live-in, or had unknown marital status. In 2000, the proportion of single persons was 48.5 percent, while the proportion of married persons was 43.6 percent of the total household population 10 years old and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among single persons, there were more males (56.3 percent) than females (43.7 percent). Females outnumbered the males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of academic degree holders increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 39.4 percent had attended or finished elementary education and 34.1 percent had reached or completed high school. The proportion of academic degree holders was only 7.2 percent, but increased by 4.9 percentage points from its proportion of 2.3 percent in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females pursued higher levels of education than males as majority of academic degree holders (57.1 percent) and those with post baccalaureate course (64.8 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, majority (67.2 percent) attended school at anytime during the School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total females aged 5 to 24 years, 69.3 percent attended school at anytime during the School Year 2007 to 2008, while attendance for males was lower at 65.4 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAlmost one household for every occupied housing unit/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"From a total of 27,115 occupied housing units in 2000, the number of occupied housing units reached 32,031 in 2007, showing an increase of 18.1 percent. The average number of households for every occupied housing unit was one household, an improvement from the ratio of 101 households for every 100 occupied housing unit in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMost occupied housing units were made of strong materials/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"An improvement in the materials used for the outer walls was observed in 2007. The proportion of occupied housing units with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone increased from 15.9 percent in 2000 to 20.2 percent in 2007. On the other hand, the proportion of occupied housing units with outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa dropped from 51.2 percent in 2000 to 48.7 percent in 2007 or a difference of 2.5 percentage points./p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority (71.2 percent) of the occupied housing units in 2007 had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum. Use of cogon/nipa/anahaw for the roof remarkably decreased from 34.1 percent in 2000 to 22.1 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
