This figure was higher by 61,271 persons over the population count of 707,668 persons in 2000. The population count of the province for the 2000 and 2007 censuses translated to an average annual population growth rate of 1.15 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 155,886, which was 16,941 households more than the number of households reported in 2000. The average household size in 2007 was 4.9 persons, slightly lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bCity of Masbate was the most populated area/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Contributing 10.6 percent to the provincial population, the City of Masbate, the provincial capital, was the most populous among the lone city and 20 municipalities of Masbate. It was followed by the municipalities of Aroroy (8.1 percent), Cawayan (7.8 percent), Uson (6.6 percent), and Cataingan, Placer, and Milagros with 6.3 percent each. The rest of the municipalities contributed less than six percent each. The municipality of Batuan was the least populous with 1.6 percent share to the total provincial population./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1089f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMales continued to outnumber females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 768,082 household population in Masbate in 2007, 51.2 percent were males while 48.8 percent were females. Males continued to outnumber females with a sex ratio of 104 males per 100 females in 2000 to 105 males per 100 females in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age declined by one year/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Masbate had a median age of 16 years, which means that half of the household population were below 16 years old. The median age in 2000 was higher by one year./p p align="JUSTIFY"Age group 0 to 4 years contributed the highest share to household population with 15.9 percent, followed closely by those in age groups 5 to 9 years (15.5 percent) and 10 to 14 years (14.6 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1089f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age brackets 0 to 49 years, while more females than males were reported in age brackets 50 years and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAlmost half of the population were of voting age/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The voting-age population (18 years old and over) of Masbate was 47.4 percent of the household population. By sex, this segment of the population was distributed into 50.7 percent males and 49.3 percent females./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio increased to 102 dependents per 100 working age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 49.6 percent. Young dependents (0 to 14 years) comprised 46.0 percent while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 4.4 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the overall dependency ratio was 102, which means that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were 102 dependents (93 young dependents and 9 old dependents). In 2000, there were about 93 dependents (85 young dependents and 8 old dependents) per 100 persons in the working age group. The increase in the number of both the young and old dependents resulted to a higher overall dependency ratio in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore never-married males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Approximately 46.0 percent of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were married while 42.2 percent were never married. The rest of the population were either widowed (4.3 percent), divorced/separated (0.6 percent), had common law/live-in marital arrangement (6.6 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.3 percent). Among never-married persons, there were more males (56.3 percent) than females (43.7 percent). Females outnumbered the males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHigher school attendance for females than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 55.8 percent had attended or finished elementary education while 22.2 percent had reached or completed high school. The proportion of academic degree holders was 4.6 percent, or twice the 2000 figure of 2.3 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females had attained academic degrees (58.6 percent), while more males had post baccalaureate courses (52.8 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 65.9 percent had attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. School attendance among females aged 5 to 24 years (68.5 percent) was higher compared to that of males aged 5 to 24 years (63.6 percent) during the said school year./p p align="JUSTIFY"bRatio of households per 100 occupied housing units remained at 101/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, there were 154,860 housing units occupied by 155,886 households. The average number of households per 100 occupied housing units in 2007 was the same in 2000 at 101 households. However, in terms of the number of persons per occupied housing unit, the 2007 ratio of 5.0 persons per occupied housing unit was slightly lower than the 2000 ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit./p p align="JUSTIFY"bUse of light materials as outer walls and roofs remained high/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of occupied housing units in Masbate with outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa was 45.0 percent. Use of wood for outer walls increased slightly from 22.4 percent in 2000 to 23.9 percent in 2007. Also, occupied housing units with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone went up by 5.4 percentage points, from 11.5 percent in 2000 to 16.9 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (55.9 percent) of the occupied housing units in 2007 had roofs made of cogon/nipa/anahaw. Use of galvanized iron/aluminum for the roofs was 38.4 percent, or an increase of 15.5 percentage points from the 2000 figure of 22.9 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"font face="Arial" size="-1"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
