p align="JUSTIFY"bNumber of households increased by 5,073/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The population of Catanduanes was 232,757 persons as of August 1, 2007, based on the 2007 Census of Population. This figure was higher by 17,401 persons over the population count of 215,356 persons in 2000. The population counts for the province for the 2000 and 2007 censuses translated to an average annual population growth rate of 1.08 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 46,092, which was 5,073 households more than the number of households in 2000. The average household size in 2007 was 5.0 persons, slightly lower than the average household size of 5.2 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bVirac was the most populated municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 11 municipalities in Catanduanes, the provincial capital, Virac was the most populous with 27.7 percent share to the provincial population. It was followed by San Andres (Calolbon) (14.5 percent), Caramoran (11.0 percent), Viga (8.3 percent), Pandan (8.2 percent), and Bato (8.1 percent). The rest of the municipalities contributed less than six percent each. The municipality of Gigmoto was the least populous, with 3.3 percent share to the total provincial population./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1042f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMales ountumbered females in the household population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 232,290 household population of Catanduanes, 51.3 percent were males and 48.7 percent were females. The sex ratio was recorded at 105 males for every 100 females, slightly higher than the sex ratio of 103 males per 100 females in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHalf of the population of Catanduanes were below 19 years old/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Catanduanes had a median age of 19 years, which means that half of the household population were below 19 years old. The same median age was recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"Age group 0 to 4 years contributed the highest share to household population with 13.5 percent, followed closely by those in age groups 10 to 14 years (13.4 percent) and 5 to 9 years (13.3 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1042f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age brackets 0 to 49 years, while more females than males were reported in age brackets 50 years and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bThree out of five persons were in voting-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (52.9 percent) of the household population of Catanduanes were of voting ages (18 years old and over). The distribution of voting-age population by sex was 50.5 percent for males and 49.5 percent for females. The proportion of voting-age population in 2007 was nearly the same as in 2000 (53.1 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependency ratio remained at 87 per 100 working-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 53.4 percent. Young dependents (0 to 14 years) comprised 40.2 percent while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 6.4 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratios for POPCEN 2007 and Census 2000 were both recorded at 87, which imply that every 100 persons in the working age group had to support 75 young dependents and 12 old dependents./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore never-married males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About 46.0 percent of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were never married while 42.5 percent were married. The rest of the population were either widowed (5.4 percent), divorced/separated (0.8 percent), had common law/live-in marital arrangement (5.4 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.1 percent). Among never-married persons, there were more males (56.2 percent) than females (43.8 percent). Females outnumbered the males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bHigher levels of education and school attendance for females than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 41.6 percent had attended or finished elementary education while 29.6 percent had reached or completed high school. The proportion of academic degree holders was 7.9 percent, an increase of 2.6 percentage points from the 2000 figure (5.3 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females had attained higher levels of education than males, as majority of those with academic degrees (60.4 percent) and post baccalaureate courses (63.7 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, more than three fifths (68.7 percent) attended school at anytime during the School Year 2007 to 2008. The school attendance among females (71.1 percent) was higher than that of the males (66.5 percent) during the said school year./p p align="JUSTIFY"bRatio of households per 100 occupied housing units decreased to 101/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of occupied housing units in 2007 reached 45,851, indicating an increase of 14.2 percent from the total of 40,146 occupied housing units in 2000. The number of households per 100 occupied housing units was 101 in 2007, slightly lower than the ratio of 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units in 2000. In terms of the number of persons per occupied housing unit, a ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit was recorded in 2007, lower than the ratio of 5.4 persons per occupied housing unit reported in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bUse of strong materials for roof and outer walls increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of occupied housing units in Catanduanes with outer walls made of wood dropped from 29.0 percent in 2000 to 25.1 percent in 2007. The same trend was observed for occupied housing units with outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa, that is, from 21.6 percent in 2000 to 18.9 percent in 2007. Occupied housing units with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone posted an increase of 10.6 percentage points./p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority (66.9 percent) of the occupied housing units in 2007 had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum.
