SUMMARY REPORT OF THE MERCHANDISE EXPORT PERFORMANCE FOR JUNE 1997

JANUARY-JUNE EXPORT REVENUE EXPANDS BY 22.1 PERCENT

Merchandise exports for the first half of 1997 improved by 22.1 percent to $11.697 billion from $9.582 billion last year generating additional dollar-inflows valued at $2.115 billion.

For June 1997, exports of goods posted an 18.5 percent gain as receipts reached $2.126 billion, surpassing $1.793 billion in 1996 by $333 million.

 

ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS TOP JUNE EXPORTS

Income from Electronics and Components, accounting for 39.5 percent of the aggregate June 1997 exports, increased by 12.6 percent to $839.92 million from $746.03 million last year.

Second biggest earner for the month with a 10.2 percent share was Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories which reported a combined income of $216.03 million, lower by 3.9 percent from $224.70 million last year.

Receipts from Input/Output Peripheral Units, representing 6.4 percent of the total, increased by 351.1 percent to $136.58 million from $30.28 million last year.

In fourth was Coconut Oil which maintained its position last month as receipts of $82.89 million grew by 167.0 percent from $31.04 million last year.

Woodcraft and Furniture at number five earned $41.43 million, or 11.1 percent higher than $37.30 million last year.

Other major exports for the month were: Ignition Wiring Sets and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircrafts and Ships, $41.09 million; Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis, $33.00 million; Metal Components, $29.82 million; Gold, $29.10 million; Petroleum Products, $21.77 million.

Combined revenue from the top ten merchandise exports amounted to $1,471.63 million or 69.2 percent of the total.

 

RECEIPTS FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS UP BY 18.6 PERCENT

Led by electronics, machinery and transport equipment, and garments, dollar-value of manufactured goods accounting for 84.5 percent of the total went up by 18.6 percent to $1.797 billion from $1.514 billion last year.

Revenue from agro-based products grew by 21.3 percent to $194.36 million from $160.29 million in 1996.

Representing 3.3 percent of the aggregate value, mineral products, notably copper metal, posted a 60.3 percent increase to $70.07 million from $43.72 million.

 

US SHARE OF EXPORTS PLACED AT 34.6 PERCENT

The United States continued to be the biggest export market as receipts accounting for 34.6 percent of the total reached $735.0 million, up by 15.5 percent from $636.16 million last year.

Purchases made by Japan, still the second biggest market with an 18.6 percent share, amounted to $395.58 million, increasing by 22.9 percent over $321.90 million last year.

Netherlands was the third biggest market with total exports valued at $129.65 million, increasing by 41.4 percent over $91.70 million in 1996. This value represented 6.1 percent of total merchandise exports.

Singapore, accounting for 6.0 percent of the gross export revenue, bought $126.90 million worth of merchandise exports, which was 12.0 percent higher than $113.26 million last year.

Rounding up the list of top ten markets for June 1997 were: United Kingdom of Great Britain, $100.30 million; Germany, $96.34 million; Taiwan, $90.23 million; Hongkong, $89.47 million; Thailand, $59.88; and, Republic of Korea, $46.03 million.

Aggregate receipts from these top ten markets amounted to $1,869.38 million or 87.9 percent of the total.
