SUMMARY REPORT OF THE MERCHANDISE EXPORT PERFORMANCE FOR JANUARY 2000

 

MERCHANDISE EXPORTS INCREASE 4.8 PERCENT

Aggregate receipts from merchandise exports for January 2000 grew by 4.8 percent to $2.705 billion from $2.581 billion a year ago.

 

ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS DROP 7.9 PERCENT

Receipts from Electronics and Components, accounting for 50.4 percent of the aggregate January 2000 exports, decreased by 7.9 percent to $1.365 billion from $1.482 billion a year earlier.

Input/Output/Peripheral Units was second with a combined share of 10.1 percent and receipts of $272.30 million which was 45.3 percent higher than $187.44 million last year.

The third top earner consisted of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories valued at $180.12 million, which increased by 12.6 percent from $159.99 million in 1999.

Woodcraft and Furniture ranked fourth with sales amounting to $44.68 million and increasing by 34.0 percent from $33.35 million.

Revenues from Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircraft and Ships grew by 19.6 percent to $40.28 million from $33.68 million in 1999.

Exports of Metal Components went up by 44.7 percent to $34.84 million from $24.08 million a year ago.

Rounding up the list of the top exports for the month of January 2000 were Petroleum Products, $29.92 million; Gold, $27.74 million; Coconut Oil, $27.26 million; and Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis, $23.18 million.

Aggregate receipts for the top ten exports amounted to $2.045 billion, or 75.6 percent of the total.

MANUFACTURED GOODS POST 4.3 PERCENT INCREASE

Accounting for 90.4 percent of the total receipt, exports of Manufactured Goods posted a 4.3 percent increase to $2.446 billion from $2.345 billion a year earlier.

Income from Agro-Based and Other Agro-Based Products combined for $112.45 million or 4.2 percent of the total. Compared to last year, aggregate revenues for these commodity groups grew by 17.0 percent from $96.12 million.

EXPORTS TO US ACCOUNT FOR 29.6 PERCENT

Accounting for 29.6 percent of aggregate receipts for January 2000, the value of exports to the United States reached $801.91 million, increasing by 5.7 percent from $758.90 million last year.

Japan followed with a 14.4 percent share. Valued at $388.26 million, exports to Japan rose by 6.1 percent from $365.84 million in 1999.

Exports to Singapore, the third biggest market accounting for 8.0 percent of total receipts, registered a 36.0 percent increase in sales amounting to $216.62 million from $159.25 million.

Taiwan was fourth for the month as shipments of local goods amounted to $207.50 million or 7.7 percent of the total. Compared to last year, receipts increased by 9.5 percent from $189.54 million.

Other top markets for the month were Netherlands, $193.66 million; United Kingdom of Great Britain, $143.07 million; Hongkong, $140.74 million; Germany, $122.86 million; Malaysia, $97.47 million; and Republic of Korea, $90.12 million.

Total export receipts from the top ten markets amounted to $2.402 billion or 88.8 percent of the total.
