Oriental Mindoro Leads the Growth of MIMAROPA Region in 2021

02 December 2022 – Calapan City. After the declines recorded in 2020, five out of six economies in MIMAROPA region posted growths in 2021. This is based on the results of the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) which covered five provinces and one highly urbanized city, namely: Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Romblon, and the City of Puerto Princesa.

Results showed that in 2021, the province of Oriental Mindoro contributed the most to the 3.3 percent growth of the region with 1.8 percentage points. This was followed by Occidental Mindoro with 1.2 percentage points, and Marinduque with 0.33 percentage point. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

In terms of growth, the province of Occidental Mindoro recorded the fastest growth of 9.4 percent, while the province of Palawan declined by -1.4 percent. (Table 1)

MIMAROPA Region, along with two other regions, was included in the pilot compilation of PPA in 2021. To date, the PPA compilation covers 46 provinces and 13 HUCs across nine regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2021 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 28 April 2022.
