Series of 1993

ADOPTION OF THE REVISED SET OF OFFICIAL POPULATION PROJECTIONS AT THE NATIONAL AND REGIONAL LEVELS

WHEREAS, these programs are expected to result in a more rapid fertility decline, an improvement of survivorship and a widening of the sex differentials in mortality;

WHEREAS, the fertility and mortality assumptions used for the national population projections initially prepared by the Technical Committee (TC) on Population and Housing Statistics, through the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Population Projections, have been revised to reflect these expected changes;

WHEREAS, the TWG has come up with the revised set of national population projections by sex for the period from 1990 to 2000 given in single years and for the period from 1990 to 2040 at five-year intervals;

WHEREAS, the TWG has firmed up the new set of regional population projections that are consistent with the revised figures for the national level;

WHEREAS, there arose a pressing need for the immediate adoption/release of official national and regional population projections for policy and development planning purposes;

WHEREAS, the NSCB Executive Board, through a referendum conducted from November 17 to 26, 1993, approved the revised national and regional population projections;
