APPROVING THE CLASSIFICATION OF BARANGAYS
AS OF APRIL 15, 1994

WHEREAS, a standard geographic classification is necessary to ensure uniformity and comparability of statistics relating to geographic areas;

WHEREAS, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), National Statistics Office (NSO), National Computer Center (NCC), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Land Management Bureau (LMB), and the Bureau of Posts, had developed and prescribed for adoption the Philippine Standard Geographic Code;

WHEREAS, in view of the continuing changes in the boundaries, names, status and composition of the country’s geographic areas especially at the barangay level, there is a need for regular updating/revision of the Philippine Standard Geographic Code;

WHEREAS, the Technical Working Group on Geographic Classification (TWG-GC) of the NSCB Technical Committee on Statistical Standards and Classifications (TC-SSC) has prepared an updating classification of barangays as of April 15, 1994 consisting of 41,911 barangays based on the reconciled barangay lists of the Commission on Elections, National Statistics Office and the National Barangay Operations Office of the Department of Interior and Local Government;

WHEREAS, the updated classification of barangays has been reviewed and found to be acceptable by the TC-SSC;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the updated classification of barangays as of April 15, 1994 as presented by the TC-SSC and that the same be the basis of the 1994 Philippine Standard Geographic Code.
