APPROVING THE CREATION OF A STEERING COMMITTEE AND
SECTORAL WORKING GROUPS FOR THE FORMULATION OF THE
PHILIPPINE STATISTICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (PSDP) 2005-2010

WHEREAS, the Philippine Statistical Development Program (PSDP), a blueprint for statistical development in the country and a framework for coordinating statistical activities of the entire government bureaucracy, provides the direction and priorities of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) for the medium term;

WHEREAS, the country’s Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP), which is updated every six (6) years, has already been formulated, highlighting the priority development programs and activities for 2004-2010;

WHEREAS, there is a need to update the PSDP 1999-2004 to address the statistical development concerns of the PSS and to provide statistical information needed in monitoring and evaluating the achievements made in the MTPDP 2004-2010, taking into consideration the priority strategies, targets and activities for development in the medium term;

WHEREAS, the formulation of the PSDP 2005-2010 will lay the necessary framework for generating statistics and indicators needed in policy formulation, development planning and decision making by various stakeholders and data users in the country;

WHEREAS, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) has the mandate to spearhead the preparation of the PSDP, enjoining the participation of the entire PSS;

WHEREAS, the participation of government agencies and their attached bureaus and agencies, legislative offices, academe, and other producers and users of data is fundamental in the formulation of comprehensive, responsive and attainable statistical programs for the medium term;

WHEREAS, the creation of a Steering Committee and Sectoral Working Groups is deemed necessary;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the creation of a Steering Committee and Sectoral Working Groups, enjoining the participation of the concerned agencies and institutions, to assist in the formulation of the PSDP 2005-2010;

BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that the NSCB Technical Staff is hereby authorized to determine the composition of the Steering Committee, as presented in Annex BR-14-2004-01, and the Sectoral Working Groups to ensure representation from all sectors.
