APPROVING THE CREATION OF A TASK FORCE ON THE PROPOSED PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THE STATISTICS DEGREE

WHEREAS, the professionalization of the statistics degree in the country is being proposed in order to enhance the credibility and objectivity in the practice and application of statistics in various sectors and fields and to give recognition to statistics as a profession;

WHEREAS, the professionalization of the statistics degree is included in the strategic plans of the Philippine Statistical Association, the professional organization of statisticians in the country;

WHEREAS, under Republic Act No. 8981 - PRC Modernization Act of 2000, the professionalization requires the passing of a licensure examination on statistics to be administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in accordance with its rules and regulations;

 WHEREAS, to professionalize a degree, a Republic Act that includes provisions on: (1) the creation of a Board that shall function as the Oversight Committee on the professionalization of the degree in the country; and (2) a budget proposal for its implementation, is required;

WHEREAS, the creation of a Task Force to study the professionalization of the statistics degree has been recommended by the NSCB Technical Staff;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED , that the Board approve the creation of a Task Force to study the professionalization of the statistics degree for a period of six months with a bill for submission to Congress as the major output of the Task Force:
