APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE UPDATES TO THE 1992 PHILIPPINE STANDARD OCCUPATIONAL CLASSIFICATION (PSOC)

WHEREAS, a standard classification is necessary to ensure uniformity and comparability of occupational statistics compiled in the country;

WHEREAS, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) maintains the Philippine Standard Occupational Classification (PSOC), the latest of which was prepared in 1992 based on the International Standard Classification (ISCO) issued by the International Labor Organization in 1988;

WHEREAS, there is a need to update the 1992 PSOC to reflect demands for new occupations brought about by the introduction of new technologies, and the emergence and growing importance of new industries, especially in the areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and related industries;

WHEREAS, the Technical Committee on Statistical Standard and Classification (TC-SSC) has recommended for approval and adoption of the updated 1992 PSOC to enhance the consistency and usefulness of various occupational statistics;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve updates to the 1992 PSOC for adoption by concerned government offices, agencies and instrumentalities.
