ADOPTING THE METHODOLOGY USED IN GENERATING NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND PROVINCIAL POPULATION PROJECTIONS, 1995-2020

WHEREAS, population projections are needed to provide planners, policy-makers and program managers with population data between censal years;

WHEREAS, the availability of more recent population data based on the 1995 Population Census (POPCEN) allows the preparation of the 1995 Census-Based National, Regional and Provincial Population Projections;

WHEREAS, the 1995 Census-Based National and Regional Projections were approved by the NSCB Board on 21 March 1997;

WHEREAS, the Technical Advisory Group and the NSO Population Projections Unit through the UNFPA-NSO Project PHI/96/P01 (Strengthening the NSO in Providing Data for Local Planning and Development) has come up with a new volume entitled “1995 Census-Based National, Regional and Provincial Population Projections,” that presents the methodolody and provincial-level population projections as well as the updates on the national and regional population projections;

WHEREAS, the Technical Committee on Population and Housing Statistics in its meeting held on 27 August 1998 has endorsed said methodology for approval by the Board;

WHEREAS, majority of the Board members through a referendum approved the methodology used in generating the national, regional and provincial population projections;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve for adoption by all concerned the attached methodology in generating the 1995 Census-Based National, Regional and Provincial Population Projections as the official figures to be utilized for planning and programming purposes;

BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that Resolution No. 5-97 issued by the Board on 21 March 1997 regarding the adoption of the 1995 Census-Based National and Regional Population Projections be hereby revoked and superseded by this resolution.

Approved through a referendum conducted on the 10th day of November 1998.
