ADOPTION OF THE 1995 POPCEN-BASED NATIONAL AND REGIONAL POPULATION PROJECTIONS

WHEREAS, there is a need to prepare population projections to provide planners, policy-makers and program managers with population data between censal years;

WHEREAS, the availability of more recent population data based on the 1995 Census of Population (POPCEN) allows the preparation of new sets of population projections;

WHEREAS, the TWG on Population Projections through the UNFPA-NSO Project PHI/96/POI (Strengthening the NSO in Providing Data for Local Planning and Development) has come up with a set of national and regional population projections, 1995-2040, based on the 1995 POPCEN;

WHEREAS, the 1995-based national and regional population projections assume certain future trends in the demographic processes of fertility, mortality and migration required by the cohort-component method of population projections;

WHEREAS, the Technical Committee on Population and Housing Statistics (TCPHS) in its meeting held on 26 February 1997 has endorsed said population projections for approval by the Board;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve for adoption by all concerned the attached 1995-Based National and Regional Population Projections as the official figures to be utilized for planning and programming purposes;

BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that Resolution No. 12-94 issued by the Board on 12 December 1994 regarding the 1990-based population projections is hereby superseded by this resolution.
