After the regional championships held simultaneously last November 20, the names of the 17 young statistics whizzes who will vie for the top titles in the National Finals of the 21st Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) are now known. They will compete in three rounds of questions and answers on statistical theories and problems on December 4 at the Commission on Higher Education Auditorium in Quezon City.
The PSQ, which started in 1992 and is spearheaded by the National Statistics Office and Philippine Statistical Association, aims to appraise the students’ competency and skills in statistics as acquired from high school. Realizing the noble cause of the competition, the Commission on Education began endorsing the PSQ in 1994.
Competing in this year’s National Finals are the following:
Roundtrip fares and allowances shall be given to the regional champions and their respective coaches from outside Metro Manila for the duration of the National Finals in Manila. Modest accommodation shall also be provided to them for free. At stake for the top five placers are modest cash awards, trophies, certificates of recognition, and several gift items from various sponsors and donors.
