Chicken egg production in the first quarter of 2018 increased by 7.42 percent compared to the production in same period of 2017. Egg production from layer chicken comprised 84.03 percent of the estimated 130,549 metric tons total chicken egg production; and the remaining percentage came from native chicken.  Major players in terms of egg production were CALABARZON with gross output of 39,332 metric tons, Central Luzon with 27,533 metric tons, and Central Visayas with 12,988 metric tons. These three (3) regions accounted for  61.17 percent of the country’s total egg production.
 
 

 

As of April 1, 2018, native/improved chicken inventory posted a 4.38 percent increase in stocks reached 83.66 million birds this year compared to its level in the same period in 2017.  Inventory of chicken layers, was recorded at 37.05 million birds, significantly increased by 7.15 percent relative to its level in 2017. Laying flock inventory went up by 4.78 percent. Inventory of other ages such as growing flock and day-old layer increased by 22.15 percent and 7.15 percent, respectively.
 
 

 

Average farmgate price of chicken egg on the first quarter of 2018 in commercial farms (PhP 4.58 per piece) was 4.52 percent lower from last year’s price level.

This Chicken Egg Situation Report presents the chicken egg industry in terms of volume of production; inventory by age; and average farmgate prices. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year. 
 
Concepts and Definitions:
 
Volume of Production For this report, volume of production refers to the volume of chicken egg disposed from locally-raised chicken including those table eggs which were shipped-out in other region/province.
 
Inventory refers to the actual number of chicken present in the farm as of a specific reference date. 
 
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
