The annual growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up 2.0 percent in October 2016. Last month, it went up by 1.7 percent while in October 2015, it declined by 0.8 percent. Faster annual increments were registered in the indices of cement at 3.6 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 4.0 percent. Slower annual increases were, however, seen in the indices of sand and gravel at 3.1 percent; hardware, 0.4 percent; plywood, 0.7 percent; reinforcing steel, 6.6 percent; and electrical works, 0.3 percent. Annual declines were still noted in the indices of lumber at -0.6 percent; G.I. sheet, -2.7 percent; structural steel, -3.2 percent; tileworks, -1.1 percent; doors, jambs and steel casement, -1.6 percent; and painting works, -0.4 percent. Other commodity groups either retained their last month’s rates or had a zero annual growth (Table 2).

Month-on-Month
On a monthly basis, wholesale prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up by 0.4 percent in October 2016. Higher rates were registered in the indices of cement at 0.4 percent; structural steel, 0.5 percent; plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 0.1 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 4.6 percent. The indices for reinforcing steel and electrical works dropped by 0.7 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively. The rest of the commodity groups had a flat growth (Table 3).
Price mark-ups were noticed in cement and flat bars. Prices of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and bunker oil also increased during the month.
