CMWPI in NCR eased in January 2023
The annual increase of CMWPI in NCR continued to slip to 9.4 percent in January 2023 from its annual rate of 10.3 percent in December 2022. Its year-on-year growth rate in January 2022 was posted at 5.3 percent. (Tables A and 2)
The heavily-weighted reinforcing and structural steel index recorded a lower annual growth rate of 11.4 percent in January 2023 compared with its annual growth rate of 12.3 percent in December 2022, primarily driving the decrease in the annual increment of CMWPI.
In addition, annual upticks were slower in the indices of the following commodity groups in January 2023:
a. Sand and gravel and doors, jambs, and steel casement, both at 5.7 percent;
b. Concrete products and cement, 10.2 percent;
c. Hardware, 7.1 percent;
d. Lumber, 7.4 percent;
e. G.I. sheet, 14.5 percent;
f. Tileworks, 5.1 percent;
g. Electrical works, 7.9 percent;
h. Plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 2.1 percent;
i. Painting works, 11.7 percent;
j. PVC pipes, 1.8 percent; and
k. Fuels and lubricants, 6.4 percent.
The indices of the rest of the commodity groups either retained their respective December 2022 annual growth rates or had zero percent annual rates during the month. (Table 2)
