Duck egg production during the second quarter of 2018 at 12,903 metric tons increased by 4.82 percent compared to the production in the same period in 2017.

Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Western Visayas were the top three (3) producers of duck egg with gross outputs of 4,921 metric tons,1,265 metric tons and 1,214 metric tons, respectively. The combined gross outputs of these regions accounted for 57.35 percent of the total duck egg production in the country. (Table 1)

 

 

As of July 1, 2018, the total inventory of duck laying flock of 5.84 million birds increased by 2.60 percent from the previous year’s population of 5.69 million birds.  During the period, the number of laying flock in backyard farms was slightly lower by 0.68 percent, while stocks in commercial farms were higher by 6.92 percent than their last year’s level.

Of the total inventory, 54.95 percent or 3.21 million birds was shared by backyard farms. (Table 2)

 

 

The average farmgate price of duck egg in commercial farms during April to June 2018 was PhP 6.20 per piece. It dropped by 9.00 percent from the 2017 average price of PhP 6.81 per piece. (Table 3)

 

 

 

TECHNICAL NOTES 

This Duck Egg Situation Report presents the duck egg industry in terms of volume of production, inventory of laying flock by farm type and average farmgate price. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly on January, May, August and November every year.

Concepts and Definitions

Volume of Production refers to the volume of duck egg disposed from locally-raised duck including those table eggs which were shipped out to other region/province. This is expressed in metric tons.

Inventory refers to the actual number of duck laying flock present in the farm as of a specific reference date.

Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
