Duck production during the second quarter of 2018 decreased by 1.98 percent compared to its 2017 level. This was a slowdown of negative growth from last year’s decline of 9.27 percent. Reductions in duck production were noted in eight (8) regions. During the period, the top three (3) duck producing regions were Central Luzon (1,374 metric tons), SOCCSKSARGEN (831 metric tons) and Northern Mindanao (629 metric tons). These regions account for 50.76 percent of the country’s total duck production. (Table 1)
As of July 1, 2018, the total duck inventory in the country stood at 11.71 million birds. It increased by 3.71 percent from last year’s count of 11.3 million birds. Duck inventories in backyard and commercial farms went up by 2.89 percent and 5.59 percent, respectively. (Table 2) Ten (10) regions recorded increases in inventory. The top three (3) were Zamboanga Peninsula, with 29.16 percent, CAR with 16.37 percent and SOCCSKSARGEN with 7.02 percent. Sixty-nine (69) percent of the total duck population were raised in backyard farms.
The average farmgate price of duck in commercial farms from April to June 2018 was posted at PhP 51.47 per kilogram, liveweight. It was up by 5.16 percent from last year’s price of PhP 48.95 per kilogram, liveweight. (Table 3)

This Duck Situation Report presents the duck industry in terms of volume of production, inventory and average farmgate price. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for dressing which includes animals shipped-out for dressing. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of animals present in the farm as of the specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
