Duck production decreased by 2.67 percent in the first quarter of 2018.  Central Luzon was the highest producer of ducks with 4.01 thousand metric tons. Other top producing regions were SOCCSKSARGEN and Western Visayas with 1.14 thousand metric tons and 0.75 thousand metric tons, respectively.  These regions contributed about 62.00 percent to the country’s total duck production.  
 
 
 
Total duck inventory in the country as of January 1, 2018 (11.22 million birds) increased by 3.49 percent from last year’s count.  Inventories in both backyard and commercial farms went up by 3.54 percent and 3.38 percent, respectively.  Of the total duck population, about 69.00 percent were raised in backyard farms. 
 
 
 
For the period January-March 2018, average farmgate price of duck in commercial farms (PhP 51.77 per kilogram, liveweight) was 3.98 percent higher compared with last year’s price at PhP 49.78 per kilogram, liveweight.  
 
 

 

Technical Notes

This Duck Situation Report presents the duck industry in terms of volume of production, inventory and average farmgate prices. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector.  It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year. 
 
Concepts and Definitions:
 
Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for dressing which includes animals shipped-out for dressing. This is expressed in thousand metric tons, liveweight.
 
Inventory refers to the actual number of animals present in the farm as of the specific reference date. 
 
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
