  • Year-on-Year

Year-on-year inflation rate of the General Wholesale Price Index (GWPI) at the national level went up at a slower pace of 11.8 percent in November compared to 11.9 percent growth in October. Inflation for crude materials, inedible except fuels dropped by -1.2 percent in November from 1.0 percent in October. Moreover, annual price increments for manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials and machinery and transport equipment correspondingly decelerated to 8.0 percent and 4.4 percent from 8.6 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively. On the other hand, inflation for food items rose to 5.4 percent from 5.2 percent; beverages and tobacco, 8.1 percent from 7.8 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 38.9 percent from 37.6 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 11.8 percent from 11.7 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 6.1 percent from 5.9 percent.

    • In Luzon, GWPI's inflation rate moved up by 13.2 percent in November, the same rate registered in October. The annual rates of increases were higher in the prices of food items at 5.9 percent from 5.3 percent; beverages and tobacco, 8.7 percent from 8.3 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 40.1 percent from 38.9 percent; chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 13.9 percent from 13.8 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 6.8 percent from 6.6 percent. Meanwhile, slowdowns were noted in the annual price additions of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials (8.9 percent from 9.7 percent) and machinery and transport equipment (5.3 percent from 6.6 percent). Annual movements in the prices of crude materials, inedible except fuels further dropped to -3.0 percent from -0.6 percent.

    • In Visayas, year-on-year inflation rate advanced to 6.9 percent in November from 6.2 percent in October. Inflation rate for crude materials, inedible except fuels rose to 5.6 percent in November from 5.5 percent in October; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 33.7 percent from 28.9 percent; chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 4.1 percent from 3.8 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 4.2 percent from 3.6 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, 2.5 percent from 2.4 percent. However, annual price uptick of food items slightly decelerated to 2.9 percent from 3.0 percent. Inflation for beverages and tobacco and miscellaneous manufactured articles correspondingly remained at 4.7 percent and 2.3 percent.

    • Inflation rate in Mindanao eased to 6.4 percent in November from 6.8 percent in October. Slower annual inflation rates were noticed in the prices of food items, 5.3 percent in November from 6.2 percent in October; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 5.6 percent from 6.0 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 3.9 percent from 4.2 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, 0.2 percent from 0.4 percent. Inflation for the rest of the commodity groups moved at their last month's rates.

  • By Commodity Group, Month-on-Month

The month-on-month inflation slowed down by 0.4 percentage point to 0.1 percent in November from 0.5 percent in October.

    • Lower prices of selected meat products, fish species, fruits and vegetables, tubers and rootcrops, copra meal and desiccated coconut pushed down the food index in Luzon by -0.1 percent in November from 1.4 percent in October. Likewise, decreases in the prices of rice, corn, selected fish species, fruits and vegetables, tubers and rootcrops, sugar, starch and desiccated coconut were observed in Mindanao. Thus, the group's index in the area and in the Philippines dropped by -0.9 percent and -0.3 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, increments in the prices of eggs, cheese, selected fruits and vegetables, canned fish and processed fruits resulted to a 0.1 percent uptick in the group's index in Visayas.

    • Upward adjustments in the prices of selected liquors in Luzon pushed up the index for beverages and tobacco in the area by 0.4 percent and in the Philippines, 0.3 percent. On the other hand, prices of beverages and tobacco items in Visayas and Mindanao generally remained stable during the month as their indices registered zero growth.

    • The index for crude materials inedible except fuels at the national level and in Luzon correspondingly decreased by -1.1 percent and -1.3 percent due to the price reduction in copra. On the contrary, the group's index in Visayas slightly grew by 0.1 percent as prices of bamboo and rattan were higher during the month. In Mindanao, prices remained stable as the group's index recorded a zero growth.

    • Add-ons in the prices of petroleum products and LPG raised the index for mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials in Visayas by 6.9 percent, and in the Philippines by 0.1 percent. On the other hand, lower prices of crude petroleum oil still observed in Luzon caused its group's index to retain its last month's rate of -0.3 percent. Prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials in Mindanao remained stable as they recorded a zero growth.

    • Price hikes in paints, antibiotics and selected medicines in Luzon mainly effected the 0.7 percent uptick in its index for chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats index. Similarly, the group's index in Visayas picked up by 0.2 percent due to the upward price adjustments of vulcanizing cement. The 0.1 percent growth in the group's index in Mindanao resulted from the increments in the prices of fertilizers and selected chemicals. All these factors added up to the 0.6 percent growth in the national index.

    • Higher prices of tires, inner tubes, lumber, plywood and veneer, G.I. sheets, hollow blocks, concrete pipes, aluminum tubes, doors, windows, and other millworks caused the index for the manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials in Luzon to grow by 0.7 percent. The group's index in Visayas also went up by 0.6 percent due to the increases in the prices of deformed bars, angle bars, flat bars, paper products and knitting mill products. Meanwhile, prices of items under the group remained stable in Mindanao.

    • Prices of selected electrical appliances and insulated electrical wires in Luzon were up during the month. Likewise, price gains were noted in electrical wires in Visayas. Thus, a 0.1 percent increase in the index for machinery and transport equipment was seen in the national level and in Luzon and Visayas.

    • Additions in the prices of sanitary fixtures, some musical instruments, selected office and photo supplies pulled up the group's index for miscellaneous manufactured articles in Luzon and at the national level by 0.2 percent. The group's index in Visayas and Mindanao registered zero growth during the month.
