The food index in Luzon grew by 0.6 percent as prices of eggs, beef, corn grain, selected animal feeds, bakery products, selected fish species, some fruits and vegetables, coffee beans and tube ice went up during the month. Price add-ons in pork, rice, instant noodles, some canned and preserved fruits and coffee beans were seen in Visayas. Thus, the group’s index in the area rose 0.3 percent. In Mindanao, upward adjustments in the prices of live weight hogs, eggs, corn grain, selected rice variety, bakery products were offsetted by the reductions in the prices of flour, fruits, vegetables, desiccated coconut and starch in the area. Hence, the group’s index in the area recorded a flat growth during the period. The national index moved up by 0.6 percent.

In Visayas, the index in beverages and tobacco dropped by 0.1 percent as selected cigarettes were priced lower in the area during the month. On the other hand, price add-ons in softdrinks in Mindanao triggered a 0.5 percent growth in its group’s index. In Luzon, the group’s index recorded a flat growth during the month. At the national level, movement in the group’s index inched up 0.1 percent.

Lower prices of pebbles in Visayas, however, pushed down its group’s index by 0.6 percent. At the country level, the group’s index picked up by 1.3 percent.

Rollbacks in the prices of gasoline and diesel oil effected the 5.4 percent decline in the mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index in Mindanao. Similarly, the group’s index in Luzon fell by 0.1 percent due to downward adjustments in the prices of crude oil and bunker oil. Reductions in the prices of gasoline in Visayas were seen during the month. On the other hand, prices of diesel oil and kerosene were higher in the area. These offsetting price movements resulted to a flat growth in its group’s index. At the national level, the index went down by 0.4 percent.

In Mindanao, the index for chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats inched up 0.2 percent as fertilizers, selected paints and varnishes were priced higher during the month. For the Philippines, the group’s index rose 0.1 percent.

Thus, the index for manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials in the area moved up by 0.1 percent. Higher prices of selected paper products likewise pushed up the group’s index in Visayas by 0.1 percent. On the contrary, downward adjustments in the prices of selected leather products, G. I. sheets, and some hardware products caused the group’s index in Mindanao to drop by 0.2 percent. In the Philippines, the group’s index grew by 0.1 percent.

The 0.2 percent gain in the miscellaneous manufactured articles index in Luzon was due to the increments in the prices of selected newspapers, printed matters, and office and school supplies. A 0.3 percent growth in the group’s index in Mindanao was due to higher prices of some undergarments. On the contrary, the group’s index in Visayas declined by 0.3 percent due to lower prices in selected clothing and some miscellaneous manufactures. At the national level, the group’s index climbed by 0.2 percent.
