1. GWPI at the national level slowly picks up in August 2020

The annual increase of GWPI at the country level slowed down to 2.4 percent in August 2020. In the previous month, its annual rate was observed at 2.7 percent and in August 2019, 1.7 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials continued to move downward as its annual rate dropped to -4.1 percent.

In addition, the indices of other commodity groups exhibited slower annual gains during the month. (Table 2)

2. GWPI in Luzon also moves up at a slower pace

Following the trend of the national level, the GWPI in Luzon posted a slower annual rate of 2.6 percent in August 2020. Its annual change in July 2020 was recorded at 3.0 percent and in August 2019, 1.8 percent. (Tables A and 2)

On an annual basis, the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials went down by 3.1 percent during the month.

The indices of other seven commodity groups had slower annual increments in August 2020. (Table 2)

3. GWPI in Visayas decelerates during the period

The GWPI in Visayas slid at an annual rate of 0.3 percent in August 2020. In the previous month, its annual rate was 0.8 percent and in August 2019, 2.1 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual declines were observed in the indices of food at -0.3 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, -17.1 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, -0.04 percent.

On the other hand, the annual rate of crude materials, inedible except fuels index rose by 12.6 percent.

The indices of the rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month’s annual growth rates. (Table 2)

4. GWPI in Mindanao picks up in August 2020

The GWPI in Mindanao, however, posted a higher annual rate of 1.8 percent in August 2020. In the previous month, its annual change was recorded at 1.7 percent and in August 2019, 1.0 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual uptick was higher during the month in the index of chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 0.8 percent.

On the other hand, annual rates decreased in the indices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at -4.1 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, -0.6 percent.

The indices of the rest of commodity groups moved at their previous month’s positive annual growth rates. (Table 2)
