1. GWPI for the Philippines picks up in February 2021

The annual growth rate of GWPI at the national level went up to 2.4 percent in February 2021, from 2.1 percent in January 2021. Its annual change in February 2020 was recorded at 2.7 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual increments were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

a. Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 5.0 percent;
b. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.5 percent; and
c. Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.7 percent.

Moreover, the annual rate of the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials rose to 13.6 percent during the month, from an annual decrease of -3.6 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, annual hikes slowed down in the indices of food at 2.2 percent; beverages and tobacco, 6.0 percent; and crude materials, inedible except fuels, 36.9 percent.

The index of machinery and transport equipment moved at its previous month’s annual rate of 0.5 percent. (Table 2)

2. GWPI in Luzon increases this month

Similar with the trend of the national level, the annual growth rate of GWPI in Luzon moved up at a faster pace of 2.8 percent in February 2021, from 2.3 percent in January 2021. Its annual change in February 2020 was registered at 2.7 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual upticks were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

a. Food, 3.2 percent;
b. Beverages and tobacco, 7.6 percent;
c. Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 4.8 percent; and
d. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, both at 0.8 percent.

In addition, the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials exhibited an annual mark-up of 3.3 percent during the month, from an annual decline of -2.9 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, the annual increase in the index of crude materials, inedible except fuels eased to 39.1 percent during the month, while the index of machinery and transport equipment retained its previous month’s annual rate of 0.5 percent. (Table 2)

3. GWPI in Visayas retains its annual rate of decline this month

The annual change of GWPI in Visayas was recorded at -1.2 percent in February 2021, the same annual rate in January 2021. Meanwhile, its annual rate in February 2020 was registered at 3.1 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The annual growth rates were negative in the indices of food at -2.4 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials -12.4 percent; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, -0.1 percent.

The rest of the commodity groups either moved at their previous month’s annual growth rates or had zero percent annual rates during the month. (Table 2)

4. GWPI in Mindanao moves up further this month

The annual change of GWPI in Mindanao rose by 4.5 percent in February 2021, from 2.8 percent in the previous month. Its annual rate was observed at 1.3 percent in February 2020. (Tables A and 2)

Annual add-ons were higher in the indices of food at 8.2 percent; and beverages and tobacco, 11.3 percent.

Meanwhile, annual hikes decelerated in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels at 35.3 percent; chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats and machinery and transport equipment, both at 2.7 percent.

The indices of the rest of the commodity groups still posted negative annual growth rates during the month. (Table 2)
