Goat production in the third quarter of 2018 was 1.48 percent higher than the previous year’s record of 18.84 thousand metric tons, liveweight.
Among the regions that posted positive growth rates in terms of production during the period were Ilocos Region, Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Northern Mindanao. The combined share of these three regions to the country’s total goat production was 34.16 percent. (Table 1)
As of 1 July 2018, total goat inventory of 3.77 million heads increased by 0.18 percent compared with the inventory count on the same period a year ago.
Out of the total goat inventory, 40.46 percent were does, 33.67 percent were kids, 8.11 percent were bucks with recorded inventories of 1.53 million heads, 1.27 million heads and 0.31 million heads, respectively. Other ages, which include wether (castrated), doelings and bucklings was estimated at
Significant increases in the average farmgate price of goat for slaughter was observed in the last three years. The third quarter 2018 average farmgate price of goat for slaughter at PhP 140.37 per kilogram, liveweight was 11.27 percent higher than the 2017 price at PhP 126.16 per kilogram, liveweight. The highest farmgate price of live goat for slaughter was recorded in September at PhP 146.28 per kilogram, liveweight. (Table 3)

This Goat Situation Report presents the goat industry in terms of volume of production, inventory by age classification and average farmgate price. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for slaughter which include animals shipped-out for slaughter. This is expressed in thousand metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of domesticated animals present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
