Employment in establishments grows by 1.94 percent in the first quarter of 2018 
 
The result of the first nationwide Labor Turnover Survey placed the labor turnover rate at 1.94 percent.
 
This infers that 19 workers per 1,000 employed were added to the workforce in all establishments nationwide.  There are around 30,508 establishments with an estimated employment of 4,738,456 during the 1st quarter of 2018.
 
 
The accession rate stood at 9.53 percent which indicates that there was an addition of 95 workers per 1,000 employed workforce in establishments.  The additional workforce was hired either for business expansion or replacement of separated workers.
 
Meanwhile, the separation rate was at 7.59 percent which implies that for every 1,000 employed, 76 workers were either laid-off or quit their jobs.
 
Industry sector leads in the overall employment growths
 
The highest labor turnover rate during the reference quarter was recorded in the industry sector at 3.69 percent, with an accession rate of 12.28 percent and separation rate of 8.58 percent.  All industries under this sector posted employment gains where the most significant was in manufacturing at 4.43 percent.  This was followed by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply at 1.34 percent.
 
 
Meanwhile, the sector of agriculture, forestry, and fishing also posted a positive labor turnover rate of 2.07 percent, in which accession and separation of workers were registered at 6.97 percent and 4.90 percent, respectively.
 
Among the three major sectors, the services recorded the lowest turnover rate at 1.37 percent. The industries under this sector posted negative labor turnover rates. These are the real estate activities at (2.23) percent; education at (1.02) percent; and other service activities at 
(0.87) percent.
