MERCHANDISE EXPORTS POST 6.3 PERCENT INCREASE

Aggregate receipts from merchandise exports for January 2001 grew by 6.3 percent to $2.889 billion from $2.717 billion during the same month in 2000.

ELECTRONICS COMPONENTS REGISTER 1.7 PERCENT INCREASE

Receipts from Electronics Components, accounting for 58.0 percent of the aggregate export revenue for the month, went up by 1.7 percent to $1.675 billion from $1.647 billion a year earlier.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories remained as the second top earner with a combined share of 7.3 percent and an aggregate receipt of $210.92 million or 17.1 percent higher than $180.15 million last year.

Third top earner for the month consisted of Woodcrafts and Furniture valued at $46.23 million, or a 3.9 percent increase from $44.51 million a year ago.

Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircraft and Ships ranked fourth with sales amounting to $38.08 million or a year-on-year decline of 5.5 percent from $40.28 million.

Revenue from Metal Components grew by 4.5 percent to $36.29 million from $34.74 million during the same month of 2000.

Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis with 1.1 percent share had reported sales of $30.80 million or 32.0 percent higher than $23.33 million last year.

Rounding up the list of the top exports for the month of January 2001 were Bananas (Fresh), $24.76 million; Coconut Oil,$21.39 million; Petroleum Products, $19.37 million; andCathodes & Sections of Cathodes, of Refined Copper,$15.33 million.

Aggregate receipt for the top ten exports amounted to $2.118 billion or 73.3 percent of the total.

MANUFACTURED GOODS POST 7.4 PERCENT INCREASE

Accounting for 91.3 percent of the total receipts, exports ofManufactured Goods posted a 7.4 percent increase as sales reached $2.639 billion, up from $2.457 billion a year earlier.

Income from Agro-Based and Other Agro-Based Productscombined for $114.26 million or 4.0 percent of the total. Compared to last year, aggregate revenue for these commodity groups grew by 1.5 percent from $112.57 million.

Exports of Petroleum Products went down by 34.2 percent to $19.70 million while Special Transactions increased by 42.8 percent to $81.32 million.

EXPORTS TO US ACCOUNT FOR 29.1 PERCENT

Accounting for 29.1 percent of the aggregate receipt for the month, the value of exports to the United States placed at $840.71 million grew by 4.8 percent from $801.87 million last year.

Japan followed with a 17.4 percent share. Valued at $502.20 million, exports to Japan rose by 29.3 percent from $388.46 million in January 2000.

Exports to Singapore, the third biggest market accounting for 8.8 percent of the total receipt, registered a 17.0 percent increase amounting to $253.41 million up from $216.62 million a year earlier.

Netherlands emerged as the fourth biggest market for the month as shipments of local goods amounted to $241.02 million or 8.3 percent of the total. Compared to $193.66 million in the same month last year, receipts increased by 24.5 percent.

Other top markets for January 2001 were Thailand, $167.79 million; Germany, $139.08 million; Taiwan, $138.45 million;Malaysia, $101.52 million; Hongkong, $98.86 millionandUnited Kingdom of Great Britain, $88.72 million.

Total export receipt from the top ten markets amounted to $2.572 billion or 89.0 percent of the total.
