JANUARY 2010 MERCHANDISE EXPORTS UP  BY 42.5 PERCENT

 

Export earnings in January 2010 went up by 42.5 percent to $3.578 billion from $2.511 billion in January 2009.  Compared with the previous month�s level, it rose by  8.0 percent from $3.312 billion.

 

ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS INCREASED BY 51.2 PERCENT

Accounting for 56.8 percent of the aggregate export revenue in January 2010, Electronic Products was the country�s top export with a total earnings  amounting to $2.034 billion. It climbed by 51.2 percent from $1.345 billion in January 2009.  Components/Devices (Semiconductors) which comprised 41.0 percent of the total exports and the biggest share among the major groups of electronic products amounted to $1.467 billion or an annual increase of 59.0 percent. Month-on-month, Electronic Products grew by 8.1 percent from $1.345 billion recorded in December 2009.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories emerged as the RP�s second top gainer  in January 2010 with a share of 3.5 percent and an aggregate receipt of $125.05 million.  It decreased by 7.0 percent over last year�s figure of $134.49 million. 

Coconut Oil including crude and refined followed as the third top earner in January 2010 with total revenue of $102.03 million or a share of 2.9 percent to the total export receipts.  It  gained by 448.1 percent, the highest increase among the top ten exports in January 2010 from $18.62 million in January 2009.

Ranked fourth in January 2010 and contributing 2.2 percent to the total export receipts was Woodcrafts and Furniture  with sales amounting to $77.56 million, lower by 1.9 percent from $79.02 million recorded a year earlier.

Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircrafts and Ships (consisting only of electrical wiring harness for motor vehicles), with 2.1 percent share to the total export receipts, ranked fifth with revenue amounting to $73.60 million.  It   expanded  by  166.5 percent from $27.62 million recorded in January 2009.

Rounding up the list of the top ten exports for the month of January 2010 were Metal Components (excluding brakes and servo - brakes) with receipts of $55.59 million up by 76.0 percent; Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis valued at $52.53 million, rose by 8.8 percent; Cathodes and Sections of Cathodes, of Refined Copper with receipts of $35.97 million or a year-on-year negative growth of 12.5 percent; Petroleum Products (including refined petroleum products, manufactures from crude petroleum oil imported on consignment basis) with proceeds billed at $30.17 million or an  increase of 116.7 percent; and Bananas (Fresh) with export revenue of $26.72 million which decelerated by 42.9  percent from its January 2009 level of $46.79 million.

Total receipts from the top ten exports reached $2.613 billion, or 73.0 percent of the total exports.

EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS STANDS AT $3.115 BILLION

Accounting for 87.1 percent of the total receipts, exports of Manufactured Goods in January 2010 amounted to $3.115 billion or an increase of 47.1 percent from $2.118 billion recorded a year earlier.  The same was true with the previous month�s level, where it rose by 10.9 percent from $2.118 billion.

Income from All Agro-Based Products in January 2010 amounting to  $210.40 million or 5.9 percent share of the total exports revenue, went up by 30.0 percent from $161.87 million in January 2009.

Earnings from Mineral Products comprising 2.5 percent share of the total exports revenue in January 2010 reached $87.91 million. It  fell by 15.4 percent from $103.87 million in January 2009.

Receipts from Petroleum Products with 0.8 percent share of the total exports revenue totaled to $30.17 million in January 2010, jumped by 116.7 percent  from $13.92 million in January 2009. Similarly, exports revenue of Forest Products with 0.1 percent share of the total, swelled by 59.9 percent to $2.18 million from $1.36 million recorded a year ago.

Export receipts from Special Transactions with a share of 3.7 percent grew by 18.1 percent to $132.73 million from $112.39 million in January 2009.

EXPORTS TO JAPAN ACCOUNTED  FOR 16.2 PERCENT

Japan including Okinawa remained the top market of the country for January 2010 with export receipts of $579.98 million, accounting for 16.2 percent of the country�s aggregate income for the month. It increased by 49.9 percent from $387.03 million recorded a year earlier.

United States of America (USA) including Alaska and Hawaii followed as the second top market of the country for January 2010 with export earnings of $574.95 million or 16.1 percent share of the total exports, higher by 25.8 percent from $456.92 million in January 2009.

Singapore emerged as the third biggest market for January 2010 with shipments amounting to $354.08 million or 9.9 percent of the total exports, up by 191.1 percent  from a year ago level of $121.64 million.

Germany ranked fourth in January 2010 with $299.11 million or 8.4 percent of the total exports, an increase of 24.0 percent from $241.15 million in January 2009.

Other top ten markets for January 2009 were People�s Republic of China, $296.69 million; Netherlands, $246.21 million; Hong Kong, $239.34 million; Republic of Korea, $186.13 million; Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, $114.12 million;  and Thailand, $110.60 million.

Total export receipts from RP�s top ten markets for the month of January 2010 amounted to $3.001 billion or 83.9 percent of the total.

EXPORTS FROM EASTERN ASIA WORTH $1.404 BILLION

Philippines total exports in January 2010 with Eastern Asia (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan) accounted for 39.2 percent of the county�s total exports. It amounted to $1.404 billion or an increase of 43.5 percent from it�s January 2009 level of $978.49 billion.

Exports to European Union (EU) representing 20.0 percent share to the total exports in January 2010 reached to $715.46 million, up by 21.3 percent from $589.71 million recorded in January 2009.

Total exports to ASEAN member-countries with 18.2 percent share in January 2010 expanded by 120.6 percent to $650.44 million from $294.86 million registered in January  2009.
