MERCHANDISE EXPORT UP BY 13.7 PERCENT

Total receipt from merchandise export for the period January to July 1999 grew by 13.7 percent to $18.654 billion from $16.406 billion recorded during the same period last year.

For the month in review, value of exports amounted to $2.851 billion, or 14.0 percent higher compared to last years $2.501 billion.

 
ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS LEAD JULY EXPORTS

Electronics and Components, accounting for 53.4 percent of the aggregate receipt, lead this months top earners. Valued at $1.522 billion, this months reported figure represents a 27.5 percent increase over 1998's$1.194 billion.

Input/Output/Peripheral Units emerged as the country's second biggest earner for the month with sales amounting to $236.87 million, an increase of 32.3 percent over 1998's $178.99 million.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories followed with $224.32 million worth of exports or 13.3 percent lower than the year-ago figure placed at $258.72 million.

Income from Ignition Wiring Sets and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles amounted to $41.93 million, up by 24.9 percent from $33.58 million last year.

Earnings from Woodcraft and Furniture recorded at $34.93 million, dropped by 4.2 percent from the year-ago value placed at $36.47 million.

Revenue from Metal Components fell by 4.3 percent to $26.30 million from $27.49 million in 1998.

Completing the list of the top exports for July 1998 were: Coconut Oil, $24.98 million; Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis, $23.55 million; Bananas (Fresh), $19.24 million; and,Cathodes and Sections of Cathodes, of Refined Copper, $17.88 million.

Combined revenue from the top ten exports for the month amounted to $2.172 billion, or 76.2 percent of the total.

 
MANUFACTURED GOODS ACCOUNT FOR 91.3 PERCENT OF TOTAL

Posting an 18.7 percent upswing in receipts and accounting for 91.3 percent of the aggregate earning, Manufactured Goods netted $2.603 billion, up from $2.193 billion a year earlier.

Agro-Based Products and Other Agro-Based Products ranked second among the countrys major export groups and accounted for 4.2 percent of the total dollar-inflow for the month even as sales fell by 32.1 percent to $119.45 million from $175.81 million last year.

Other major commodity groups and their respective earnings were: Special Transactions, $70.73 million; Mineral Products, $45.16 million; Petroleum Products, $10.87 million; and, Forest Products, $1.70 million.

 
US MARKET CORNERS 34.8 PERCENT OF JULY EXPORT REVENUE

Exports to the United States grew by 6.6 percent to $992.74 million from $931.57 million a year earlier and accounted for 34.8 percent of the total receipt.

Japan remained at the second spot with a 13.7 percent share. Sales to Japan rose by 9.0 percent to $391.55 million from $359.24 million last year.

Singapore, ranked third behind the United States and Japan, reported purchases valued at $220.77 million or representing 7.7 percent of the total. Compared to last year, sales to Singapore climbed by 55.4 percent from $142.03 million, or a difference of $78.74 million.

Other major markets for July 1999 were: Netherlands, $215.00 million;Taiwan, $177.47 million; United Kingdom of Great Britain, $153.77 million; Hongkong, $136.23 million; Germany, $102.09 million; Malaysia, $86.21 million; and, Thailand, $69.67 million.

Total earnings from the top ten markets amounted to $2,545.6 million or 89.3 percent of the total.
