JANUARY TO JUNE EXPORT REVENUES GROW BY 13.6 PERCENT

Aggregate earnings from exports for the first six months of 1999 amounted to $15.801 billion, increasing by 13.6 percent from $13.905 billion last year.

Total earnings for June alone reached $2.856 billion growing by 19.5 percent from $2.390 billion a year ago. This is the highest growth so far since the 22.5 percent gain posted in January this year.

 
ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS POST 27.1 PERCENT GAIN

Receipts from exports of Electronics and Components grew by 27.1 percent to $1.567 billion from $1.233 billion last year. The top dollar earner accounted for 54.9 percent of the aggregate revenue for June 1999.

Sales of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories was valued at $212.84 million. This was a 7.9 percent decline from $231.17 million a year-ago. In terms of percentage share, the second top export for the month had 7.5 percent of the total.

Holding the third spot was Input/Output/Peripheral Units which turned in a combined receipt of $211.48 million, rising by 42.0 percent from $148.94 million a year ago.

Income from Ignition Wiring Sets and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles was $39.06 million, increasing by 53.1 percent over $25.52 million in 1998.

Revenues from Woodcraft and Furniture declined by 1.8 percent as shipments amounting to $38.49 million fell from $39.20 million a year ago.

Earnings from Metal Components amounted to $31.67 million posting a 31.6 percent increase from $24.07 million in 1998.

Rounding up the list of the top ten exports for June 1999 were Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment Basis,$25.14 million; Cathodes & Sections of Cathodes, of Refined Copper, $20.44 million; Fresh Bananas, $18.70 million; and Gold, $14.74 million.

Aggregate payment for the top ten exports amounted to $2.179 billion, or 76.3 percent of the total.

 
EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS UP BY 22.5 PERCENT

Manufactured Goods posted a 22.5 percent increase as sales reached $2.623 billion, up from $2.141 billion a year earlier. This major export group accounted for 91.8 percent of total receipts.

Income from Agro-Based Products and Other Agro-Based Productsaccounted for 3.8 percent of total revenue, but dropped by 24.0 percent to $109.52 million from $144.03 million last year.

Other major commodity groups and their respective earnings were Special Transactions, $65.21 million; Mineral Products, $46.91 million; Petroleum Products, $10.63 million; and Forest Products, $516 thousand.

 
US CORNERS 32.8 PERCENT OF TOTAL RECEIPTS

Exports to the United States amounted to $937.28 million, growing by 6.3 percent from $881.62 million a year earlier and accounting for 32.8 percent of the total receipts.

Japan, the second top market with a 13.4 percent share, purchased $383.71 million worth growing by 10.9 percent from $345.90 million in 1998.

Value of exports to the third biggest market, Singapore, reached $229.86 million, which was 8.1 percent of the total.

Other major markets for June 1999 were Netherlands, $220.87 million;Taiwan, $187.51 million; Hongkong, $132.30 million; United Kingdom of Great Britain, $129.77 million; Republic of Korea, $101.29 million;Malaysia, $98.43 million; and Germany, $97.49 million.

Total earnings from the top ten markets amounted to $2.519 billion , or 88.2 percent of the total.
