MERCHANDISE EXPORTS FOR JUNE 2001 POST 24.7 PERCENT DECREASE

Receipts from merchandise exports for January to June 2001 decreased by 9.3 percent to $15.978 billion from $17.616 billion during the same period last year.

For June 2001, merchandise exports declined by 24.7 percent to $2.568 billion from $3.410 billion in June 2000.

ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS DECLINE BY 39.3 PERCENT

Receipts from Electronic Components, accounting for 52.7 percent of the aggregate export revenue for June 2001, went down by 39.3 percent to $1.355 billion from $2.230 billion a year earlier.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories remained as the second top earner with a combined share of 8.1 percent and an aggregate receipt of $206.87 million or 9.1 percent lower than $227.69 million last year.

Third top earner for the month was Coconut Oil valued at $35.04 million which decreased by 26.9 percent from $47.93 million last year.

Woodcrafts and Furniture ranked fourth with sales amounting to $31.88 million or a year-on-year decrease of 29.0 percent from $44.90 million.

Revenue from Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignments Basis increased by 26.2 percent to $31.83 million from $25.23 million during the same month of 2000.

Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircrafts and Ships, with 1.2 percent share, reported sales of $29.75 million or 26.6 percent lower than $40.54 million last year.

Rounding-up the list of the top exports for the month of June 2001 were Metal Components, $29.60 million; Bananas (Fresh),$24.74 million; Cathodes & Sections of Cathodes, of Refined Copper, $22.87 million; and Petroleum Products, $14.03 million.

Aggregate receipts for the top ten exports amounted to $1.781 billion, or 69.4 percent of the total exports.

MANUFACTURED GOODS DOWN BY 26.9 PERCENT

Accounting for 88.8 percent of the total receipts, exports ofManufactured Goods posted a 26.9 percent decrease as sales dropped to $2.280 billion from $3.119 billion during the same period last year.

Income from Agro-Based and Other Agro-Based Productscombined for $127.06 million or 5.0 percent of the total. Compared to last year, aggregate revenue for these commodity groups declined by 8.5 percent from $138.80 million.

Special Transactions increased by 56.8 percent to $97.55 million, while receipt from exports of Petroleum Products went down by 42.1 percent to $14.15 million from $24.42 million.

EXPORTS TO US ACCOUNT FOR 29.3 PERCENT

Accounting for 29.3 percent of the aggregate receipts for the month, value of exports to the United States placed at $753.03 million, declined by 21.9 percent from the reported figure of $964.48 million last year.

Japan followed with a 16.9 percent share. Valued at $433.78 million, exports to Japan slowed down by 0.5 percent from 2000s $436.00 million.

Exports to Netherlands, the third biggest market accounting for 8.0 percent of the total receipt, registered a 30.7 percent decrease in sales amounting to $204.63 million from $295.27 million a year earlier.

Singapore emerged as the fourth biggest market for the month as shipments of local goods amounted to $180.77 million or 7.0 percent of the total. Compared to the same month last year, receipts decreased by 37.8 percent from $290.54 million. Other top markets for June 2001 were Taiwan, $174.78 million;Hongkong, $126.37 million; Germany, $92.35 million; United Kingdom of Great Britain and N. Ireland, $88.45 million;Thailand, $88.17 million; and Republic of Korea, $84.00 million.

Total export receipts from the top ten markets amounted to $2.226 billion or 86.7 percent of the total.
