MERCHANDISE EXPORTS FOR JUNE 2013 UP BY 4.1 PERCENT

Export earnings in June 2013 amounted to $4.490 billion, a 4.1 percent increment from $4.314 billion recorded in June of 2012.  However, on a monthly basis, it dropped by 8.2 percent from $4.893 billion posted in May 2013. The positive growth was supported by four major commodities out of the top ten commodities for the month. These are woodcrafts and furniture, other mineral products, metal components and other electronics. Aggregate merchandise exports for the first six months of 2013 showed a decrease of 4.4 percent from $26.759 billion in 2012 to $25.585 billion in 2013.

 

ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS DECREASE BY 2.2 PERCENT

Accounting for 44.7 percent of the total exports revenue in June 2013, Electronic Products emerged as the country’s top export with total receipts of $2.006 billion. It went down by 2.2 percent from $2.051 billion registered in June 2012.  On the other hand, month-on-month, Electronic Products was up by 15.6 percent from $1.735 billion posted in May 2013. Components/Devices (Semiconductors), which comprised 29.2 percent of the total exports, shared the biggest among the major groups of electronic products with export earnings worth $1.312 billion or a decline of 12.6 percent from $1.502 billion registered in June 2012.  On the other hand, volume of outward shipments of electronic products increased by 5.0 percent while semiconductors declined by 4.2 percent compared to same period a year ago.

Other Manufactures recorded as the country’s second top export with revenue valued at $321.00 million or 7.1 percent share to total exports. It decreased by 4.0 percent compared to $334.47 million in same period a year ago. Furthermore, outward shipments of this product showed an expansion of 67.3 percent compared to its year ago recorded shipment.

Ranked third in June 2013 and contributing 6.3 percent share to the total export receipts was Woodcrafts and Furniture with earnings amounting to $281.12 million. Compared to it’s a year ago level of $158.25 million, this recorded a 77.6 percent year-on-year change, registering the highest growth among the top ten products. Outward shipments of this product also showed a positive increase of 105.6 percent compare to same month a year ago volume of outward shipments.

Other Mineral Products, with 4.1 percent share to the total export receipts, ranked fourth with value posted at $184.47 million. It rose by 58.4 percent from $116.46 million recorded value during the same month in 2012. Furthermore, volume of shipments of this commodity showed a 15.3 percent increase compared to last year same month period.

Machinery and Transport Equipment with export revenue of $177.37 million, down by 33.8 percent, followed as the fifth top export earner in June 2013. Moreover, volume of this product decline by 94.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Rounding up the list of the top ten exports for the month of June 2013 were Metal Components with export earnings of $171.04 million, up by 14.6 percent; Chemicals with export receipts of $146.27 million lower by 1.6 percent; Ignition Wiring Set and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles, Aircrafts and Ships consists only of electrical wiring harness for motor vehicles with proceeds billed at $117.63 million falling by 3.4 percent; Other Electronics export recoded $110.78 million, grew by 6.5 percent and Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories with total receipts of $109.66 million declining by 26.3 percent compare to same period a year ago.

Total receipts from the top ten exports reached $3.626 billion, or 80.7 percent of the total exports.

 

EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS STAND AT $3.716 BILLION

Accounting for 82.8 percent of the total export receipts in June 2013, outward shipments of Manufactured Goods was estimated at $3.716 billion, representing a decrease of 0.02 percent from $3.717 billion recorded in June 2012. Furthermore, on a monthly basis, it went down by 1.8 percent from $3.786 billion recorded in May 2013. Outward shipments in terms of gross kilos showed a negative year-on-year change of 1.4 percent compared with shipment in June 2012 and 36.9 percent decrease in volume of shipment compared with last month.

Income from Total Agro-Based Products, comprising 7.2 percent share of the total exports revenue in June 2013, went up by 7.6 percent to $322.46 million from $299.68 million.  Compared to its previous month level, it fell by 13.9 percent from $374.41 million in May 2013. Likewise, volume of shipments grew by 25.0 percent compared to same month a year ago.

Earnings from Mineral Products, with a share of 5.8 percent in June 2013, reached $262.54 million. It inflated by 35.5 percent from $193.75 million in June 2012.  Furthermore, recorded volume of outward shipments for mineral products registered a positive growth of 12.2 percent compared to last year’s outward shipments.

Special Transactions reflecting a 2.1 percent share, increased by 24.9 percent from $75.23 million in June 2012 to $93.99 million in June 2013. Furthermore, outward shipments rose by 34.7 percent compared to same month a year ago. Moreover, export receipts from Petroleum Products accounting for 2.0 percent share of the total exports revenue expanded by 292.8 percent to $89.37 million from $22.75 million reported value a year ago. Similarly, recorded volume of this product rose by 279.4 percent compared to same month in 2012.

Forest Products with 0.1 percent share fell by 6.1 percent from $5.75 million in June 2012 to $5.40 million in June 2013. However, outward shipments of this product in terms of gross kilos were up by 56.2 percent compared to last year’s recorded volume.

 

EXPORT TO JAPAN ACCOUNTS FOR 21.9 PERCENT

Japan including Okinawa comprising 21.9 percent share to total exports for June 2013, emerged as the country’s top destination of exports with revenue amounting to $985.15 million. It was higher by 39.7 percent from $704.95 million recorded a year ago. Woodcrafts and furniture, other mineral products, components/devices (semiconductors) and bananas are the goods mostly exported to Japan.

United States of America (USA) including Alaska and Hawaii, accounting for 14.1 percent share to total exports followed as the second top market of the country for June 2013 with export earnings worth $633.05 million. This represents a decrease of 6.1 percent from $674.20 million reported a year earlier. Products exported to USA comprised mostly electronic products.

People’s Republic of China, with 13.7 percent share to total exports, came in third with shipments amounting to $613.92 million. Compared to same month a year ago, this value expanded by 14.8 percent from $534.63 million. The export items to China consist mainly of components/devices (semiconductors), other manufactures and other mineral products.

Singapore ranked fourth in June 2013 with $389.01 million or 8.7 percent share of the total exports which slightly decreased by 1.0 percent from its year ago amount of $392.78 million. Goods mostly exported to Singapore were components/devices (semiconductors), petroleum products and machinery and transport equipment.

Fifth in rank and representing 8.6 percent share to total exports was Hong Kong with export earnings worth $386.79 million or an increase of 13.2 percent from $341.85 million posted in June 2012. Electronic products, metal components and other manufactures were goods mostly exported to Hong Kong.

Other top ten markets for June 2013 were, Germany $200.10 million; Republic of Korea, $196.57 million; Taiwan, $140.75 million; Thailand, $137.75 million; and Malaysia, $125.48 million.

Total export receipts from the country’s top ten markets for the month of June 2013 amounted to $3.809 billion or 84.8 percent of the total.

 

EXPORTS TO EAST ASIA WORTH $2.329 BILLION

The merchandise exports of the Philippines to East Asia in June 2013 accounted 51.9 percent share to total exports, amounting to $2.329 billion or an increase of 17.2 percent from its June 2012 figure of $1.987 billion.

Exports to ASEAN member-countries, accounting for 16.8 percent share to total merchandise exports in June 2013, reached $752.14 million, a 4.7 percent increase from $718.22 million recorded in June 2012.

Merchandise exports to European Union (EU), on the other hand, sharing 10.8 percent to total merchandise exports in June 2013, was valued at $486.85 million. It contracted by 25.0 percent from $649.02 million posted in June 2012.
