· Producer Price Index (PPI) exhibits positive trend
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for February went up by 2.2 percent compared with the year-ago level. This was brought about by the increases reported by twelve sectors, with double-digit increases registered by publishing and printing (20.9%), footwear and wearing apparel (17.4%), and beverage (10.9%). On the other hand, eight (8) sectors posted year-on-year decreases in producer price of commodities led by furniture and fixtures (-12.0%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
On a month-on-month basis, PPI grew by 1.5 percent. Seven (7) sectors posted price increases as follows: paper and paper products, basic metals, machinery excluding electrical, rubber products, footwear and wearing apparel, wood and wood products and textiles. Meanwhile, leather products, publishing and printing and tobacco sectors have not reflected changes in prices of commodities Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
· Response Rate
The response rate for February 2007 is 90.1 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 274 sample establishments' reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
