· Producer Price Index (PPI) registers slower growth
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry recorded a slower increase of 0.7 percent in July 2007. Fourteen (14) of the 20 major sectors reported price increases, with double-digit increases observed in the following:publishing and printing (20.9%), basic metals (12.4%)and footwear and wearing apparel (10.3%). . On the other hand, six (6) major sectors registered year-on-year decreases in producer price, with two-digit decreases observed in furniture and fixtures (-19.8%) and miscellaneous manufactures (-12.0%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
On a monthly basis, PPI also posted a 0.3 percent growth in July 2007. Major sectors that posted price increases were petroleum products, basic metals,beverages, chemical products, machinery excluding electrical, textiles, transport equipment, wood and wood products, leather products and paper and paper products. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
· Response Rate
The response rate for July 2007 is 87.9 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 268 sample establishments� reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
