· Producer Price Index (PPI) maintains single-digit growth
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry continued to register a single-digit increase as it posted 1.4 percent in May 2007. Twelve (12) major sectors reported price increases, with double digit increases observed for publishing and printing (20.9%) and footwear and wearing apparel (16.8%). On the other hand, five (5) sectors registered year-on-year decreases in producer price commodities led by furniture and fixtures (-14.6%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
On a monthly basis, PPI slightly went up by 0.1 percent in May 2007. Seven (7) sectors contributed to the increase namely: basic metals, fabricated metal products, petroleum products, textiles, miscellaneous manufactures, machinery excluding electrical and transport equipment. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
· Response Rate
The response rate for May 2007 is 89.2 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 272 sample establishments reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
