The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted a bilateral meeting with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to discuss the agency’s initiatives on Natural Capital Accounting (NCA).

The meeting was presided by PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General and was attended by representatives from the Environment and Natural Resources Accounts Division. Meanwhile, DENR Undersecretary for Finance, Information Systems and Climate Change Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh and representatives from Policy and Planning Service, Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Service, and Knowledge and Information Systems Service participated in the meeting.

The PSA compiles several environmental accounts and statistics such as mineral asset accounts, energy asset accounts, and water flow accounts. It also develops environmental accounts and compiles environmental statistics at the regional level. These initiatives support the implementation and institutionalization of NCA in the Philippines. As mentioned by Undersecretary Rebuelta-Teh, NCA is “a key tool for informed decision-making” to DENR on environment and natural resources management.

The meeting also strengthened the partnership between PSA and DENR on the production of quality data and statistics on environment and natural resources as well as statistical capacity building on the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounting frameworks.
