The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) approved the conduct of the Longitudinal Cohort Study on the Girl and Boy Child by the University of San Carlos (USC) in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on
21 November 2017.

The survey aims to examine the impact of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda implementation (2016-2030) on the lives of Filipinos, to understand the impact from the perspective of 10-year old girls and boys on how their lives will change in the next 15 years and to provide a profile of the target population groups.

A sample of 4,952 households with at least one child aged 10 years old as of his/her last birthday will be selected from the three (3) major island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to participate in the survey to be undertaken from December 2017 to
February 2018.

The data items that will be collected include the following:

• Household information (composition and characteristics, basic utilities, sanitation and neighborhood, assets and income, access to facilities and commercial establishments, food insecurity experience)
• Index child’s mother information (pregnancy history and family planning update)
• Index child’s information (education and employment, infant feeding and health history, hygiene, happiness, aspiration, activities, weight and height measurements, psychosocial health, emotional and behavioral problems, relationship with parents, risky behaviors, use of social media, violence, and pubertal assessment)

A total budget of Php 16.0 million is allocated for the conduct of the survey to cover personal services, travelling, supplies, printing and shipping expenses.

Results of the survey will be released in June 2018.

The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of
Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:
• ensure sound design for data collection;
• minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
• effect economy in statistical data collection;
• eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
• achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the public is enjoined to support the said survey.
