The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the 2022 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV). The survey will be conducted by the PSA in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT). It will gather updated data at the household level on domestic and international tourism which are vital to the effective and efficient development and implementation of tourism plans and programs as well as inputs on policy making.

Specifically, the survey aims to:

  1. measure the volume of domestic and international visitors;
  2. determine the profile and travel characteristics of domestic and outbound visitors;
  3. identify travel patterns of the household members 15 years old and over;
  4. estimate the extent of and economic contribution of domestic and international visitors in the country; and
  5. gather indicators to measure the impact of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the tourism industry.

Major data items to be collected in the survey include the following:

  1. details of visitors received and second home;
  2. details of travel in 2021 and 2022;
  3. places visited;
  4. domestic package tour;
  5. domestic independent trip;
  6. long weekend holidays;
  7. international travel; and
  8. travel in the next 12 months.

A budget amounting to PhP 34.1 million will be utilized in the survey. The 2022 HSDV will interview about 33,000 households and 11,000 individuals nationwide from September to October 2022. Results of the survey are scheduled to be released in July 2023.

The 2022 HSDV was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the selected households and individuals to support the 2022 HSDV by providing the required information. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit the selected households and individuals to conduct a personal interview.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 and (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph and ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
