The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) and the Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS). These two surveys are undertaken every quarter.  Both survey will determine and measure the inventory, disposition and volume of production of farm animals from the backyard and commercial livestock and poultry industry in the country.

The BLPS cover the backyard or small farms of household livestock and/or poultry raisers numbering to about 22 thousand households in the Philippines per quarter. On the other hand, the CLPS will cover more than 4,000 commercial farms in the country, every quarter.

Major data items to be collected from the two surveys include the following:

b. Inventory by age/type
c. Supply indicator (number of births, hatched live, received/acquired)
d. Slaughtered/dressed in the farm
e. Sold live for slaughter/dressing
f. Sold live for other purposes (breeding, fattening)
g. Average farmgate price (live animal, eggs)
h. Milk Production indicators (animals on the milk line, average milk production)
i. Deaths/Losses
j. Egg production indicators (laying flock, ELER, egg laid in a month)
k. Average liveweight per head/bird
l. Disposition by Areas of Destination
m. Assessment of Farm Production

A budget of PhP 31.2 million and 23.2 million will be utilized each quarter to undertake the BLPS and CLPS, respectively. Results of both surveys are released one month after the reference quarter.

The detailed results of the 2020 BLPS and 2020 CLPS can be accessed at https://psa.gov.ph/products-and-services/publications/Livestock%20and%
20Poultry.

The BLPS and CLPS were reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the backyard raisers and commercial farm operators to support and participate in the survey by providing the information needed. An authorized PSA interviewer will visit the households to conduct a personal interview.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division (SSD) of the Standards Service (SS) with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 or (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph or ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
