The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted the Commission on Population - Region VI (POPCOM VI) clearance for the conduct of the Census of Migration in the Municipality of Malay, Aklan. The census was cleared through the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS) on 14 August 2017.
 
The census aims to (1) establish and strengthen a migration database in Western Visayas; (2) capacitate the Local Government Units (LGUs) on migration data banking and management; (3) conduct migration survey for the establishment of baseline data on migration; (4) create a Migration Information Center/Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Help Desk or Kiosk as a strategy to continuously update and strengthen the migration database; and (5) integrate the result in the local development planning.
 
The census will be conducted on October 2017 covering about 10,180 households in the Municipality of Malay, Aklan. Data items to be collected from the census include:
  • Number of migrants
  • Classification of migrants
  • Educational attainment
  • Technical/Vocational Skills
  • Employment
  • Place of origin
  • Place of destination
  • Income/Occupation
  • Pull and push factors
The census will utilize a budget amounting to PhP 924 thousand to cover personal services, maintenance and other operating expenses, printing expenses, contingency fund and professional fee.
 
The census was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA No. 10625 to:
  • ensure sound design ensure sound design for data collection;
  • minimize the burden placed upon respondents; 
  • effect economy in statistical data collection;
  • eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection; and
  • achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the residents of the Municipality of Malay, Aklan are enjoined to support the said census.
