The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the Pilot Redesigned Crops Production Survey (CrPS).
The Pilot Redesigned CrPS is a pilot survey conducted by PSA to test the effectiveness of the newly-developed sample design. Specifically, the objectives of the redesigned survey are:
- To conduct a parallel run of the redesigned and the current design of CrPS;
- To assess the survey results of the parallel run by survey round; and
- To be able to recommend the best methodology for implementation.
The major data items to be collected are the following:
- Volume of production by crop, by quarter, by province;
- Area planted/harvested by crop, by quarter, by province;
- Number of bearing trees/hills/vines by crop, by quarter, by province; and
- List of referred rare crop operators.
The pilot survey will be conducted in May and August 2022 in 1,974 household and 36 establishments in Benguet, Iloilo, and Davao del Sur. The undertaking will utilize a total budget of PhP 2.9 million. Results of the survey are expected to be presented to the PSA Board in November 2022.
The Pilot Redesigned CrPS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:
- ensure sound design for data collection;
- minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
- effect economy in statistical data collection;
- eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
- achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the crop farming households and establishments in Benguet, Iloilo, and Davao Del Sur to support and participate in the said survey by providing the information needed. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit the target respondents to conduct a personal interview.
