PSA Clears the Conduct of Survey on Welfare Issues in Price Control on Occasions of Calamities, Emergencies and Like Occurrences

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) clearance for the conduct of the survey entitled Welfare Issues on Price Control on Occasions of Calamities, Emergencies and Like Occurrences. The survey was cleared through the Statistical Review and Clearance Review System (SSRCS) on 16 August 2017.
 
The said survey aims to assess the effects of imposition of price control as a disaster response strategy and answer issues on consumer protection and local economic recovery. 
 
The survey will be conducted from August to September 2017 in 351 households and enterprises in Zamboanga City, given its experiences during the MNLF siege in 2013. The data items that will be collected include the following:
  • Household information (education, occupation/employment of family members, etc);
  • Micro enterprise information;
  • Coping strategies;
  • Price movements before, during and after disaster; and
  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) sentiments and recommendations.
The survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA No. 10625 to: 
  • ensure sound design ensure sound design for data collection;
  • minimize the burden placed upon respondents; 
  • effect economy in statistical data collection; 
  • eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection; and 
  • achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the public is enjoined to support the said survey.
