The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) cleared the conduct of the 2019 Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) and the 2019 Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS).

The 2019 BLPS generates primary data on inventory and disposition of animals from backyard farms or small hold raisers. On the other hand, the 2019 CLPS generates primary data on inventory and disposition of animals by type from commercial farms. The purpose of the two surveys is to determine and measure the production of the backyard and commercial livestock and poultry industry in the country.

All provinces in the Philippines will be covered in the survey with respondents consisting of 15,901 palay/corn and non-palay/corn households in the BLPS. On the other hand, 4,876 commercial farms will serve as respondents for the CLPS.

Data items to be collected from the 2019 BLPS and CLPS are as follows:

  • Inventory/population of animals by type and age classification
  • Number of animals born/hatched live
  • Number of animals sold live for slaughter and sold for other purposes
  • Number of animals slaughtered in the households/farms
  • Number of deaths/losses
  • Volume of chicken eggs produced/laid
  • Volume of duck eggs produced/laid

A budget of Php 18.2 million and Php 14.3 million will be utilized for the BLPS and CLPS, respectively.

The following are the statistics on inventory of livestock and poultry as of 01 January 2019 based on the results of the 2018 BLPS and CLPS:

  • ensure sound design for data collection;
  • minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  • effect economy in statistical data collection;
  • eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
