The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the Women and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Development Index (WIDI) Survey. The WIDI survey will be conducted by PSA in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

The survey aims to gather baseline data on women and girls’ ICT access, use and skills. This will be an important input in the formulation of appropriate ICT-based policies and programs to help women and girls in the productive use of ICTs.

Major data items that will be gathered in the survey are:

  1. Demographic characteristics (age, sex, marital status, and highest grade completed);
  2. ICT access;
  3. ICT use;
  4. ICT skills;
  5. Cybersecurity, data privacy and online safety; and
  6. Digital economy and e-commerce.

A total budget amounting to PhP 35.0 million will be utilized in the survey to collect data from 44,000 households nationwide on 31 January to 26 February 2022. Results of the survey are scheduled to be released in October 2022.

This undertaking was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the public to support the WIDI survey by providing the required information to authorized PSA interviewers who will visit the sample households and individuals to conduct the personal interview.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division (SSD) of the Standards Service (SS) with telephone numbers (02) 8376-1928 and (02) 8376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph and ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
