The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the household survey on Awareness of Households on Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and Philippine Competition Act (PCA). On behalf of the PCC, the survey will be conducted by the PSA as a rider to the October 2021 round of the Labor Force Survey (LFS).

The survey aims to determine the awareness of households on the PCC, its mandate and the PCA. Results of the survey will guide the PCC in designing strategies to enhance its advocacy and help educate the public on the relevance of market competition in improving consumer welfare.

The major data items to be collected in the survey include the following:

a. Awareness on the PCC and PCA
b. Awareness on the PCC’s responsibilities
c. Awareness on the prohibited actions under the PCA
d. Source of information about the PCC and PCA
e. Preferred source of information of local news

Around 45,000 households nationwide will be interviewed for the survey.

Meanwhile, key results of the 2020 Awareness of Households on PCC and PCA showed that:

a. About 9.59 percent of the sample households in the country were aware of the PCC with the National Capital Region (NCR) posting an awareness level of 10.44 percent.  Among the major island groups, Visayas posted the highest awareness level at 12.17 percent followed by Mindanao with 11.15 percent while Luzon recorded the lowest awareness level at 7.43 percent.

b. On the other hand, only 2.08 percent of the households were aware of the PCA. NCR has the highest percentage at 3.49 percent. This was followed by Mindanao (2.12%), Visayas (1.96%), and Luzon has the least at 1.69 percent.

This survey was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:

a. ensure sound design for data collection,
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents,
c. effect economy in statistical data collection,
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts, and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins the public to support and participate in the survey by providing the information needed.
