The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance to the conduct of the 2021 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI). The survey will collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the economy for the year 2021.

The results of the survey will be used in forming the national and regional income accounts of the Philippine economy, and in formulating and monitoring plans and policies in the attainment of national and regional economic goals. The survey also aims to determine and compare regional economic structures and performances, and analyze the performance and contribution of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the total economy.

The major data items to be collected in the survey are the following:

  1. Employment;
  2. Revenue;
  3. Expense;
  4. E-commerce Sales;
  5. Capital Expenditure;
  6. Book Value; and
  7. Capacity Utilization.

The survey will utilize a total budget of PhP 98.2 million. Questionnaires will be distributed to about 38,500 establishments from 11 April to 13 May 2022 and will be collected from 18 April to 17 June 2022. Results of the survey are expected to be released in February 2023.

The results of the latest ASPBI can be accessed at https://psa.gov.ph/statistics/survey/business-and-industry/index.

The 2021 ASPBI was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No.10625 to:

  1. ensure sound design for data collection;
  2. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
  3. effect economy in statistical data collection;
  4. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
  5. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all the establishments to support the 2021 ASPBI by providing the required information. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit establishments to distribute and collect the questionnaire. If face to face collection is not possible, questionnaires can be submitted online through the ASPBI webpage: https://aspbi.psa.gov.ph.

For further information on SSRCS, please contact the Statistical Standards Division of the Standards Service with telephone numbers (02) 376-1928 and (02) 376-1931, and email addresses ssd.staff@psa.gov.ph or ssdss.staff@gmail.com.
