The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) cleared the conduct of the 2020 Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) and the 2020 Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS).
The 2020 BLPS generates primary data on inventory and disposition of animals from backyard farms or small hold raisers. On the other hand, the 2020 CLPS generates primary data on inventory and disposition of animals by type from commercial farms. The purpose of the two surveys is to determine and measure the production of the backyard and commercial livestock and poultry industry in the country.
All provinces in the Philippines and two chartered cities (Davao City and Zamboanga City) will be covered in the survey with respondents consisting of 15,876 palay/corn households in the BLPS and 4,849 commercial farms for the CLPS.
Data items to be collected from the two surveys are as follows:
1. Inventory/population of animals by type and age classification
2. Number of animals born/hatched live
3. Number of animals sold live for slaughter and sold for other purposes
4. Number of animals slaughtered in the households/farms
5. Number of deaths/losses
6. Volume of chicken eggs produced/laid
7. Volume of duck eggs produced/laid
A budget of PhP 36.0 million and PhP 29.6 million will be utilized for the BLPS and CLPS, respectively.
Based on the latest results of the BLPS and CLPS, the following are the statistics on inventory of livestock and poultry:

The SSRCS is a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA No. 10625 to:
a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, households and commercial farms are enjoined to support the said surveys.
