Annual change of CMRPI in NCR picks up in December 2018
The annual rate of Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in National Capital Region (NCR) went up by 2.4 percent in December 2018. Its annual growth in November 2018 was registered at 2.0 percent and in December 2017, 1.7 percent. Higher annual increases were recorded in the indices of the following commodity groups:
- Carpentry materials (3.8%)
- Electrical materials (1.3%)
- Masonry materials (5.6%)
- Painting materials and related compounds (0.9%).
On the other hand, annual increments in the indices of plumbing materials decelerated to 1.1 percent; tinsmithry materials, 1.7 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 2.2 percent.
Average annual growth of the CMRPI for all items in 2018 was higher at 2.3 percent compared with 1.5 percent in 2017. Higher average annual mark-ups in 2018 were noticed in the indices of carpentry materials at 3.1 percent; masonry materials, 3.0 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 1.2 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 1.6 percent. Meanwhile, lower average annual gains were seen in the indices of plumbing materials at 1.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 6.2 percent (see Table 2).

CMRPI in NCR exhibits a higher monthly rate in December 2018
The CMRPI in NCR picked up by 0.4 percent in December 2018. The indices of electrical materials moved up at a faster pace of 0.4 percent; masonry materials, 1.9 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.6 percent. An increase of 0.03 percent was also observed in painting materials and related compounds index. On the other hand, the increment in carpentry materials index was slower at 0.3 percent while the plumbing materials index decreased by 0.03 percent. The tinsmithry materials index exhibited a flat growth during the month (see Table 3).
Prices of plywood and veneer, common wire nails, machine bolt and nuts, electrical wires, local PVC pipe, gravel, sand, hollow blocks and steel bars went up during the month. On the contrary, lower prices were observed in G.I. pipes.
