The annual increase in the construction materials retail price index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) decelerated to 2.1 percent in June from 4.0 percent in May. The miscellaneous construction materials index continued to post negative rate of 1.6 percent in June from -2.2 percent in May. Moreover, the annual hike in electrical materials index slowed down to 1.4 percent from 6.6 percent; masonry materials index, 12.7 percent from 17.8 percent; and painting materials and related compounds index, 0.1 percent from 0.8 percent. On the contrary, a higher annual rate was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.6 percent from 0.4 percent; plumbing materials index, 1.4 percent from 1.2 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 6.3 percent from 5.8 percent.

Month-on-Month
The monthly change of the CMRPI in NCR was pegged at 0.1 percent in June, the same rate recorded in May. A higher monthly gain was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.3 percent in June from 0.2 percent in May; electrical and plumbing materials indices, 0.2 percent from -0.1 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 0.7 percent from -0.5 percent. On the other hand, the index of masonry materials dropped by 0.3 percent from 1.7 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, -0.7 percent from -0.4 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, -0.2 percent from 0.5 percent.
Price increments were noted in selected lumber, nails, electrical and wiring devices, GI pipes and corrugated GI sheet. Meanwhile, prices of cement, paints and steel bars were lower during the month compared to those in May.
